Aga Khan Music Awards
The Aga Khan Music Awards are administered by the Aga Khan Music Programme, an endeavour of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.
Established by His Highness the Aga Khan in 2018, the triennial Awards recognize exceptional creativity, promise, and enterprise in music performance, creation, education, preservation, and revitalization in societies across the world in which Muslims have a significant presence. The Aga Khan Music Awards are governed by a steering committee chaired by His Highness the Aga Khan and are administered by the Aga Khan Music Programme, an endeavour of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.
The mission of the Aga Khan Music Programme (AKMP) is to foster the development of living musical heritage in societies across the world where Muslims have a significant presence, and disseminate this work internationally through collaborations with exceptionally creative musicians, artists, educators, and arts presenters. We focus on innovative music and foster the creation of new music inspired but not constrained by tradition.
The Aga Khan Music Programme (AKMP) is an interregional music and arts education program with worldwide performance, outreach, mentoring, and artistic production activities. Launched to support talented musicians and music educators working to preserve, transmit, and further develop their musical heritage in contemporary forms, the Music Programme began its work in Central Asia, subsequently expanding its cultural development activities to include artistic communities and audiences in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. A newly created music publishing arm is managing intellectual property rights for recordings, publications, educational materials, music compositions, and films developed by or featuring educators and artists across AKMP’s areas of activity.
