Memento Mori Dance Club

Memento Mori Dance Club is an experimental project straddling traditional music, musical archaeology and detective work, and free artistic expression. Its domain is the search for a shared creative experience that transcends the division between performers and audiences.

Memento Mori Dance Club is an experimental musical project exploring the connotations between traditional Polish religious singing and the dance music of bygone centuries. The phrases of devotional songs, until recently practiced in the villages of lowland Poland, echo polonaises and mazurkas (so called "polish rythms"), which once accompanied dances and later served as musical layers for religious texts by poets both well and less known. Many songs were also composed by now anonymous folk artists, composing melodies that reflect the idiom of dance music. The Memento Mori Dance Club project seeks contexts and circumstances in which both seemingly contradictory layers—instrumental dance music and contemplative religious texts—can coexist.
