Romani musicians have shaped the musical landscape of Europe – particularly in East Central Europe – through their deep contributions to folk traditions. These contributions are widely recognised, though not always equally acknowledged in national cultural narratives. Despite clear artistic excellence, Romani musicians continue to face significant structural barriers in access to professional opportunities, funding, and international networks. This session explores the pressing needs of Romani musicians today, emphasising the importance of tailored support, professional networking, and strategic interventions to foster equal opportunities. The panel will share findings from needs assessments, highlight best practices, and propose pathways toward more inclusive and efficient mechanisms to help Romani artists thrive in today’s global music industry.
