Vasilis Giaslakiotis was born in 1982 in Heraklion, Crete. At the age of 8 he began his musical studies in the Cretan lyre at the Spyros Sifogiorgakis Conservatory from where he graduated 6 years later.
He then studied drums in Heraklion where he participated in various rock and improvisational music groups. He completed his drumming studies at the Modern Music School of Athens, from where he graduated with honors.
He collaborates with popular artists of the Greek music scene and participates in well-known jazz, rock and traditional music groups as well as musical theater performances.
The musical universe of "Dretta" is a mixture of jazz, rock and improvised music based on the Cretan musical idiom. Taking the Cretan tradition as his starting point, Vassilis Giaslakiotis composes music from his adolescence until today. As he says: "any species can marry with another if there is love and aesthetics."
"Dretta" has been presented with great success in selected venues in Athens in combination with parallel artistic actions or visual themes. The first presentation of the album took place in November 2017 at the Alkmini theater where excerpts from short films accompanied the seven tracks of the album.
