Thierry is a Congolese artist, drummer and singer, forced to emigrate and find refuge in Italy due to decades of destabilising civil
war. Born in Katana on Lake Kivu and raised in Bujumbura, the former capital of neighboring Burundi, he began learning music at the age of eight. His mentors were the artists Jean Christophe Matata and Canjo Amissi, both Burundian icons of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Under their tutilage, he learned the rudiments of singing, guitar, drums and percussion.
Creativity was his inheritance from his parents. His mother is a drummer, singer and director of the Santa Cecilia choir which she founded in 1972. His violinist father appeared in the first Italian television broadcasts and was the tenor of the SOSAT choir. Both gave notable cues to his artistic growth, encouraging free range music listening - from tribal to symphonic, pop to classical, reggae to rock, jazz to world music and much
more.
His passion led him to attend the conservatory of modern music in Milan (CPM). On his Afro-Cuban jazz course, he specialized in drums and percussion, with forays into piano and voice.
At the centre of multiple international projects, both in studio and live on stage, the pandemic gave him time to focus on his dream, his debut album, Asante, released in summer 2023.
