UNDER THE CYPRESS TREE , BECAUSE THE SOUND MUST COME OUT OF THESE WALLS.
Under the old cypress, the wise Soroosh Gharahmanloo , living legend in Iran, strums his Setar. His friend, the musical jack-of-all-trades Thomas Noël , shakes some grooves from his keyboard next to him. Together they muse about their adventure, The Tehran Sessions , when they made living rooms and festival stages unsafe with Eastern sounds, Western swing and a sharp eye for the big city.
In a nearby garden they suddenly hear the vibe of a summer pool party. They recognize the sound, DJ GRAZZHOPPA dictates the beats. The three men look at each other and nod: let's join the party together, let's make this happen.
It's going to be fusion at its best! Soroosh is at home in both progressive rock and traditional Persian music. Thomas swiftly melts jazz, folk, rock and blues together. And since DJ Grazzhoppa won one DJ competition after another, he's been looking to enrich his sound and hip-hop rhythms with extra musicians and multi-piece bands. Together they make a pact: a whirling trio with a tight plan and room for improvisation.
And space for space: they now supplement the eastern views and photos of the suburbs with graffiti and street art. The sound must come out of these walls. Every place becomes an opportunity to make music, to jam and to interact with the images and art from there. Inside and outside: in a concert hall or museum, on the street or open-air stage, under the oaks and under the cypresses.
