Step into the magical rhythm labyrinth of Mama Longhorn and get lost in its multi-coloured, meandering passages. You won’t find your way out, and you don’t even want to.

Mama Longhorn from Pori has charmed listeners with versatile, energetic rhythm music for already fifteen years. Their organic fusion sound started with the basis on afrobeat and funk, but has evolved into more and more progressive and experimental mix with influences from rock, jazz, and even trip hop while being tinted by catchy melodies, free form playing and psychedelic hues as well as the Northern mysticism, which is identifiably heard both in singer Eeva Poijärvi’s voice but also in the melancholic side of their music.

Their fourth album Extinct But Still Alive (2024) elevated Mama Longhorn’s sound to a more adventurous and truly global level, earning a five-star review and a song in Top of the World selection of Songlines magazine (May 2024) and on their compilation album. Since, the track ”Rowing High Rowing Low” has been celebrated worldwide by deejays and special folk & world music radio programme hosts, and will be followed by a bunch of remixes in 2026.

Without abandoning their afrobeat and funk roots, the band have let their imaginations fly high and creative juices flow unrestrained. Two unreleased tracks from the fourth album will be issued next as an digi and vinyl EP including the catchy and groovy “All Renew, All Rejoice” and the epic and adventurous “A Bar of Gold for a Drop of Water”. Still, live shows are where Mama Longhorn truly comes ablaze, and after a break from live stages, Mama Longhorn are actively looking for opportunities to play live, both in Finland and in other parts of the world.

Mama Longhorn is one of the two specially selected Funky Finland artists for Womex2025, represented by Funky Amigos.
