Kongero is a highly esteemed, world touring Swedish Folk'appella group singing powerful, evocative, haunting music. A concert with Kongero will take the listener on a fabulous journey, an all-embracing Scandinavian folk music experience. Amazing vocal polyphony, groovy, and powerful. We released our 6th album "Live in Longueuil" in the summer 2021 and it’s been so well-received!

We push the boundaries in trad/folk/world music as well as in a cappella and chamber music. We feel it’s important to share this passion with others. By conducting our workshops and master classes we make great music and long-lasting connections with singers wherever we go. To share is to gain something new, and by sharing our tradition, knowledge, and passion we get lots of positive energy, love, and powerful musical experiences.

This journey has, since 2005, resulted in extensive touring all over Europe, Canada, Barbados, and Singapore. We have done official showcases at Folk Alliance International, Nordic Folk Alliance, Nordic Showcase, Bourse Rideau, and we were an official participant of Global Music Match 2022.

Kongero runs the festival: Nordic Folk Fest and are board members of NASC – North Atlantic Song Community.

Kongero has released 5 own full-length albums (2008, 2011, 2014, 2017, 2021), one collaboration CD with the instrumental band Massivet ‘Vaerla Vaken’ (2018), and three Song Books consisting of their workshop material.

“... and my, my, what a birthday present for anyone with ears to hear. On a mix of traditional and self-composed pieces, they shine with a crystalline brilliance.”

Kongero & WÖR - 'Songbooks'
- Lively, refined music from Sweden and Belgium -

Musical common ground, shared laughter, passion, great craftsmanship and inspiration. This all makes 'Songbooks' such a magical and rewarding collaboration.

Exploring the connections, kinship, and contrasts between the musical traditions and repertoire, the Swedish folk'appella band Kongero & Belgian instrumental band Wör, together, decided to go song hunting in songbooks and collections.
They both love elegant melodies and powerful stories, and share the same goal:
to let the timeless emotions and exquisite melodies speak for themselves, with some help from these accomplished musicians and their dazzling arrangements.

'Songbooks' is a marriage between voices and instruments – WÖR, a Belgian band known for inventive instrumental arrangements of 18th-century manuscripts from the lowlands, and Kongero, a boundary-pushing Swedish Folk'appella group that brings a powerful and evocative approach to Scandinavian Folk Songs.

Their collaborative live show consists of stories, songs, tunes, themes that appear in Belgian and Swedish traditions, and an original composition written primarily for 'Songbooks.' The effect is lively, sincere, beautiful, and groovy. The arrangements are exquisite, letting every song speak, and every musician's expression shine, allowing all instruments and voices to have their role and place - in building this magical show together.
