Films on Demand on virtualWOMEX

Films on demand in April

Each month this spring, we revisit a batch of films from our WOMEX 24 Film programme.

Following our January and February selections, we continue with four more films that explore various music communities—both past and present—through artist stories and poetic depictions of artistic journeys. This month’s selection includes: a music documentary from British Underground exploring the influence of traditional folk songs on a new generation of musicians; the story of a British-Nigerian soprano who woke up in darkness after an eye operation and began experiencing synaesthesia; an experimental documentary about the cultural roots of bleep, a distinctive subgenre of house and techno that emerged in the late 1980s; and a poetic living, breathing study of UK duo Space Afrika's Northern working class Black British reality.

Starting this Friday, 18 April until Sunday, 27 April, all virtualWOMEX members will be able to stream the selected films:

The Broadside Hack directed by Crispin Parry
Colours of Sound directed by Cécile Embleton
Ultra Violet Neon Planet directed by Jashan Walton
Untitled (To Describe You) directed by Tibyan Mahawah Sanoh
