”Plays like a village full of haunted fiddlers”
Emilia Lajunen's latest project Legacy of the Dead: Deep in the Dregs raises a whole village full of possessed fiddlers from their archival graves. Their age-old craft is combined with Emilia Lajunen’s unique style and electrified by Eero Grundström, Lajunen’s musical partner of two decades. New album was released in 2023 by Nordic Notes and has gotten very good media attention. Emilia graduated as a doctor of music at Sibelius Academy last year and the performances with this new music was part of her doctoral dissertation.
Quotes of the reviews:
Vainaan perua: Satavuotinen Sakka (Legacy of the Dead: Deep in the Dregs) is an exhilerating project, recommended for fans of Nordic folk music who don’t mind having the traditions updated in a respectful but highly creative way. Gary Whitehouse / A Green Man Review
“Finnish folk violinist Emilia Lajunen has set her sights high on her solo album "Legacy of the Dead: Deep in the Dregs": She wants to resurrect an entire village full of passionate fiddlers from the archives! In doing so, she combines the ancient art of the Finnish fiddlers with her own distinctive playing. Further accents arise from the close cooperation with the electronic sound tinkerer Eero Grundström, with whom the musician has already been working for 20 years.” Stevie Connor / The Sound
