CretanWinds presents traditional music from various parts of Greece, and it has a particular focus on the idioms of the island of Crete. It consists of three musicians who translate the traditional sound into their own sound. They endeavor to enrich and refreshing the old, and creatively adapt it to today's listening. Maria Louka who has released four personal albums, gives a unique feminine spirit to traditional Greek music with her voice. George Zacharioudakis has carried out a PhD research on traditional Greek music and revives archetypal and almost extinct musical instruments. Stelios Sikakis is a virtuoso performer of various types of Greek lutes. He extends the technical capabilities of the lutes by bringing out a personal style of playing. The musical instruments they perform are: sfirothiampolo (Cretan whistle),mantoura (Cretan pipe), askomantoura (Cretan bagpipe),lira (Cretan fiddle), laoyto (Greek lute), mpoylgari (Cretan saz), and daoulaki (Greek drum). The three musicians have given numerous performances in Greece and abroad during the last ten years. They have also released an album with the title "Avgerinos" (Morning star)that constitutes a distinctive approach in the interpretation of traditional Greek music.
