A ccu apparteni" (Whom do you belong to) is a music project based on original songs and rearrangements of traditional tunes that speaks the language of the landless, feelings tied to the torn identity of those who leave their homes to build a new life elsewhere.
In this work, instruments such as friscaletti (traditional Sicilian flutes), marranzani (jaw harps), bagpipes, mandolins, guitars, tambourines, and electronic elements weave a sonic womb where words transform into an ancestral narrative that evolves into something profoundly current. The mother tongue, the Sicilian dialect, becomes a tool not to evoke nostalgia for a world that no longer exists (as in folk revival) but to carve out universal, timeless conditions: poverty, disdain, and loneliness, as well as resilience, hope, and the yearning for a better future— yesterday as today, across all latitudes.
The title, A ccu apparteni?, is an old Sicilian way of asking a stranger's identity. Elders still inquire about someone’s belonging—not to a place but to a family, a "tribe." They do not ask for a name, emphasizing that no one can define themselves without acknowledging the essence of their origins—a substance more moral than genetic.
"This album represents my personal journey of recognizing what and who I belong to. It embodies me and all those who no longer live in the land where they were born, carrying with them their solitude and pride—the "uprooted" people of every time and place."
